Original Series (1863–1875) National Bank Notes
The Original Series notes, issued beginning in 1863, were the first National Bank Notes produced under the National Banking Act. These large-size notes feature some of the most ornate and detailed designs in American currency, including the famous "Lazy Deuce" two-dollar note. First Charter notes are the oldest and rarest of all National Bank Notes, and surviving examples in any condition command strong premiums from collectors.
